our opal mines

We own and operate Jundah opal mine, situated 44km from Jundah township in Central West Queen- sland, covering 260 acres of opal-bearing country. It is the home of the famous "Galaxy" boulder opal specimen. This opal mine is very unique as it is the only field in the world that produces both black opal and boulder opal of unsurpassed quality.

It is said that opal was mined in Jundah well before the late 1800's. In the 1900's there were over one hundred men working in the locality, their finds so prosperous that they even had a local pub!

Jundah mine is worked through open-cut mining which generally takes place between April and Oct- ober as the temperature reaches 45-50 degrees in the warmer months.

John Bernard grew up in the famous Benny-Wojciechowski opal mining family and is running mining oper- ations at our Jundah opal fields.

Keep posted over the next few weeks as we will be showing more pictures of our opal finds direct from the mines!
