Essentials and Credentials
Opal Minded is the only jewellery maison dedicated exclusively to Australian opals.
Millions of years in the making, Australian opals are among the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world. Distinctive and unique, each opal is a part of the Earth’s oldest continent and carries within it the colours and stories of the Australian Dreamtime.
We own our own mines and control the process from opal mining through to cutting, polishing, design and craftsmanship. Controlling every aspect and step of the mining and jewellery creation process means we can confidently guarantee the quality and integrity of all our opal pieces.
Designed in-house, our opal pieces vary from the unaffected and elegant to the unashamedly glamorous. Whether it’s a custom made opal engagement ring, eye-catching opal earrings for a hardworking mother or a beautiful opal pendant just because; each precious piece is a one-of-a-kind—just like you.
Our passion for opals can be traced back to a family line of explorers, treasure hunters and three generations of opal miners and designers of opal jewellery. We share this passion with our team of qualified gemmologists and registered valuers who can help you choose from our ready-to-wear collection or find a stone for a bespoke design just for you.
Our opals are ethically sourced and we guarantee our jewellery and unset stones for life.
Let us make your opal dreams come true at Opal Minded.
Credentials, Ethics and Disclosures
Our gemmologists’ qualifications from the Gemmological Association of Australia (GAA) and the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) extend their expertise to other gemstones and include diamond and pearl grading. Simply put, they know their stuff.
We abide by the codes of ethics of the Jewellery Association of Australia (JAA) and National Council of Jewellery Valuers (NCJV). Importantly, we are bound by the integrity and long-standing reputation of Opal Minded as are those who represent us.
At Opal Minded, we believe in full disclosure of opal treatments on par with world gemstone industry best practices. We adopt a policy similar to that of the reputable dealers of other precious stones such as rubies, emeralds and sapphires; namely ‘assumed treated, unless stated otherwise’.
Our own solid opals are treatment free and a Certificate of Valuation by one of our accredited valuers confirms this in writing.
